Michael E. Joyce, MD Board Certified Orthopaedic Surgeon
Michael Joyce is committed to each one of his patients. His compassion, dedication, knowledge and ability to explain each phase of injury and recovery are what make him extraordinary. Dr. Joyce trained at the finest institutions in the country. He attended Medical School at Washington University, ranked in the top 10 medical schools in the country. Subsequently his residency training was completed at Barnes Jewish Hospital, St. Louis MO, which is consistently ranked in the top 10 nationally by US News and World Report. Dr. Joyce completed a post-doctorate fellowship in the Orthopaedic Research Unit at the Arthritis Institute (NIAMS) of the National Institute of Health. Dr. Joyce spent another year of advanced fellowship training in sports medicine at the prestigious American Sports Medicine Institute in Birmingham, Alabama, with internationally respected sports medicine expert Dr. James Andrews and Dr. William Clancy, the pioneer of the surgical technique for modern ACL and PCL ligament reconstruction.
Dr. Michael Joyce is affiliated with St. Francis Hospital and Medical Center, the only hospital in Connecticut listed as a top 100 hospital. He is affiliated with University Connecticut Health Care Center and the Farmington Surgery Center. He serves as Assistant Clinical Professor at the University Connecticut Medical School and Department of Orthopaedic Surgery. He teaches medial students, Orthopaedic residents, and primary care and orthopaedic surgery fellows.
Dr. Joyce is a founder of the international recognized Connecticut Joint Replacement Institute (CJRI). He is Director of the Connecticut Sports Medicine Institute (CSMI). He is the founder, President, and CEO of Lighthouse Surgical Center the area's premier ambulatory surgical facility.
Dr. Joyce is a leader in Orthopaedic Sports Medicine in Connecticut. He has been the team physician for all UCONN athletic teams for over 20 years. He is the team Orthopedist for the Hartford Yard Goats and the New Britain Rockcats for the last 20 years. He has been a consulting orthopedist for many other Universities including ECSU, Bryant University, AIC, and Quinnipiac University. He is past team physician for the Connecticut Sun WNBA and international professional boxing. He was a team physician at the Atlantic 1996 Olympics.
