Orthopaedic Surgeon
Dr. Dukas is devoted to the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of orthopaedic injuries, and takes pride in providing exceptional care to patients of all ages. His clinical expertise includes the care of professional and collegiate athletes, sports injuries, joint replacement, and fracture care. He has advanced training in the latest arthroscopic and minimally invasive techniques for the knee, shoulder, elbow, and hip, and has performed thousands of arthroscopic procedures in his high-volume practice. His areas of focus include ACL injuries; hip arthroscopy and preservation, including labral tears and femoroacetabular impingement (FAI); pediatric sports injuries; knee preservation, including cartilage transplantation, meniscus repair, and ligament reconstruction of the ACL and PCL (including revision ACL); elbow surgery, including UCL (Tommy John) reconstruction; and comprehensive shoulder care, including shoulder replacement and rotator cuff repair.
Dr. Dukas joined Dr. Joyce at Orthopaedic Sports Specialists, where his evidence-based approach to patient care and excellent technical skill aligned with the philosophy Dr. Joyce has long championed for the practice. He had thoroughly impressed Dr. Joyce with his performance and reputation during his training at the University of Connecticut. Dr. Dukas works closely with patients to tailor treatment plans, both nonoperative and operative, to each patient's specific needs, continuing the practice's legacy of excellence in patient care.
Dr. Dukas completed advanced sports medicine training at the renowned University of Utah, ranked among the nation's top orthopaedic programs for research by the National Institutes of Health. The University of Utah has a storied history in sports medicine, caring for Olympic athletes, and is one of only three medical centers in the country designated by the U.S. Olympic & Paralympic Committee as a National Medical Center for Team USA athletes.
While at Utah, Dr. Dukas was part of the medical team for Team USA and served as an assistant team physician for the Utah Jazz, the AAF's Salt Lake City Stallions, and University of Utah collegiate teams, including football and the Red Rocks gymnastics program. Today, he continues to care for some of Connecticut's highest-profile athletes as a team physician for UConn Athletics, the Hartford Yard Goats (the Colorado Rockies' Double-A affiliate), Hartford Athletic professional soccer club, and Loomis Chaffee Athletics.
A proven leader in his field, Dr. Dukas has authored more than 30 peer-reviewed articles, textbook chapters, and society poster presentations. He was named the Arthritis Foundation's 2022 Medical Honoree and serves on the board of the Connecticut Orthopaedic Society, which represents the state's orthopaedists before state and federal legislators. He is also a reviewer for the American Journal of Sports Medicine, a Clinical Associate in the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at the University of Connecticut School of Medicine, and a clinical instructor for the UConn Orthopaedic Residency Program.
